The update released for all PlayStation 5 users without warning today, bringing a handful of new goodies, a new area, and even a few new missions to complete. It’s enough content to keep you busy for around an hour or so longer, but considering Astro’s Playroom came free for anyone who owns a PS5, it’s more than enough reason to celebrate. luck8 and Team Asobi have dropped a surprise update for Astro’s Playroom in celebration of the reveal of its full-fledged Astro title, Astro Bot. Maybe the most impressive piece of the PlayStation 5 hardware is its new controller, but it’ll only be as good as the games that support it. Transcending its role as an introduction to the PS5’s features, Astro’s Playroom is a quick and delightful celebration of PlayStation’s history.
This section only lists games whose only easter eggs were in the Trophy list. Games who had others within the game itself are listed above instead. Once you get to the very top of Mt. Motherboard, on the right you can see a Bot in a white cloak fighting against the wind. The character is a White Cloak, unlocked by finding all the Symbols in the game, and the struggle against the snow refers to the famous snowstorm finale.

The main character Ash uses a paint brush that can bring his creations to life. When you get to the very end of the level, you’ll land on a Sacred Symbols rainbow bridge. Turn around and run to the start of the bridge to see two bots at the title screen of “Bot of War”. This title screen references 2005’s God of War for the PS2, developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio. Every single PS2 God of War was released in a PS3 collection in 2009, while the PSP duo were in 2011.
While it isn’t necessarily hard, some levels are quite challenging. As Astro, players must clear hordes of enemies by spinning toward them or, in some cases, using a gun to get through. As a final reference, the music when climbing up the Memory Cards and CD-ROMs to get to the boss fight is very similar to the music that played when viewing the T. The “Hell Diver” Trophy, awarded for jumping off the tallest diving board at the end of Bot Beach. This references 2015’s Hell Divers, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios for the PS4, PS4 and PS Vita. The name of the Trophy is very similar to the game’s hardest difficulty, “Hell Dive”.

Astro’s Playroom goes a step further by setting itself entirely inside your PlayStation 5, with the four worlds based on the SSD, GPU, and other major components. Artifact 2/2 “EyeToy Camera” – At the next checkpoint you can obtain the machine gun, which allows you to shoot through glass walls. Take the machine gun back to where puzzle piece 3 was, where you might have noticed a box with a wire pull in it. Shoot this box to break it, then pull the wire to reveal this artifact.
Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right after getting into the spring suit, jump to the left and land on the button to raise some platforms, then jump up to the left again to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After reaching the first wire pull while going up the wall, jump up off the left side of the tilting platform to reach this puzzle piece. The Multitap was an add-on that allowed the PlayStation to support more than two controllers and Memory Cards. When you get to the Checkpoint just after the Uncharted easter egg, head around the corner of the cliff to find a reporter pointing out a black painting on the rock. The symbols above the soldiers refer to the rhythm-based nature of the gameplay to help take on large beasts.
DVDs meanwhile aided the PS2 because its DVD drive meant that it could play DVD movies, an incredibly popular format for watching films at the time. Speaking of which, on a table is a Bot observing a gold plus with the Sacred Symbols on it. This is in reference to PlayStation Plus, a premium service that launched in 2010 that offered features such as PlayStation Store discounts, automatic patch downloads and save backups. “The Last Guy” Trophy, awarded for getting 20 Bots to follow Astro in the CPU Plaza, is named after the 2008 PSN game The Last Guy, developed by SCE Japan Studios.
This spun off into their own full VR action-platformer game, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which got a ton of critical praise and even the Best VR/AR Game award at the 2018 Game Awards. As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact. In Astro’s Playroom, players can obtain “Artifacts” from a gacha machine that unlocks collectible PlayStation products. Although Team Asobi did not formally announce it, the update also added the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds. Once players obtain these Artifacts, they can display their giant versions in the PlayStation Labo area. Finally, the update also changed Astro’s Playroom boot-up cover art.
There is a built-in progress tracker on PS5 trophies so you can easily keep track how many you found already. The Access Controller is the first PlayStation controller designed to accommodate for the needs of various disabilities, allowing disabled gamers to play with greater ease. It includes multiple different stick caps, buttons with swappable tags, industry-standard AUX ports to connect other accessibility devices, and supports up to 30 different profiles. It can also be paired with a second Access Controller and a DualSense, which can all act as a single controller input.
Astro’s Playroom has received a surprise update that adds the PS5 Pro and other PlayStation accessories to the game’s gacha machine. Astro’s Playroom launched over four years ago, but developer Team Asobi has since released a few updates for the fan-favorite game. Astro’s Playroom lets you control Astro on a 3D platforming adventure across 4 different components of the PlayStation 5. You can go through Memory Meadow, a cloudy realm of wind and storms. Or visit the Cooling Springs, featuring a beach party setting and a surprise ice level later.
They are located high up above at a tree on the hill top just ahead. To reach the tree, progress the level so you end up behind the hill, and use the PS1-shaped clouds and the steps on the rock face to climb up the wall. Upon touching the fourth starfish, you’ll come across the special bot, and the clue for the riddle — an arrow following a specific route. To find the special bot in SSD Speedway, head to the Bot Beach area.

Puzzle Piece 2/4 – In the next section when riding the lily pad, you’ll need to jump over a series of obstacles to move forward. Jump onto the last one with the large coin above it, then jump up again to the right to reach this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – Once you reach the ice ramp, instead of proceeding forward jump down to the right where you can find this puzzle piece under the platform you’re meant to jump to. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right after getting into the spring suit, charge a jump to the left to break through the glass to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – On the lower floor of CPU Plaza, pull the three wires on the platform in the corner by the ramp down to reveal this puzzle piece. Despite looking like a handheld, the PlayStation Portal doesn’t run games by itself.
It takes you through the vibration, adaptive triggers, touchpad, motion sensor and microphone. But once you do dive in, there’s no shortage of joy that comes from how Team Asobi has translated in-game surfaces, objects, and movement into different DualSense sensations. As the PlayStation pack-in title for the PlayStation 5, Astro’s Playroom is a short and masterful experience. While it was originally just a tech demo for the DualSense, it offers a colorful and expertly crafted platforming game to tie in all of that controller’s features.
